MUKARO
INSTITUTIONS
|
|||
| In 1944 a farm was bought for the establishment of the school during the reigns of Fr. Feder. The liberation war didn’t give the junior boarding school peace as it was forced to turn into a day school. | |||
With
the motto, “progress through
hardworking” the school managed to give its pupils a push through the
times of Zimbabwean struggle.
There
have been major developments since the inception of the school amongst them,
the building of an infants block in 1995, then the introduction of a special
class in 2004. In a bid to fulfill its vision of becoming a “school of the best choice” the
school introduced home economics in 2005. The school has an enrolment of 687
pupils from grade 0 through 7.
|
|||
The
desire of the school authorities to have computers inorder to build up
pupils, who are computer literate, is being hindered by the lack of funds.
The
unavailability of administration offices, teachers’ accommodation, furniture
and textbooks are some of the major challenges which are drawing back the
standard of the junior school.

High School |

Having been established in 1957 with the motto, “In the cross there is salvation” the
school focused on empowering the disadvantaged girl-child. Ten years later a
primary teacher’s training program was also included as part of activities at
the school.
Boys were later enrolled at the school in 1983. Major developments were seen in 2003 as the school purchased 2 computers for administration purposes. A
The
school currently has an enrolment of 587 boarding and 73 day scholars with a
staff of 28.
The development of the school is being retarded by water
shortage, theft and staff accommodation. The school is planning to buy a new
bus. Major Efforts are being done to introduce computer studies and plumbing
of A’ Level hostels.

Mukaro Clinic
|
|||
Orphans who are kept at the clinic |
Ever seen a
nurse with so much passion for patients? Sister Angela, the sister-in-charge
of the 1945-established Mukaro clinic is one. In order to co-relate with the
Ministry Of Health’s Mission Statement in organising the health system so
that every Zimbabwean has equitable access to a comprehensive package of
health services based on need, the clinic started to offer services such as home
based care, orphans and EPIs.
The clinic
which currently has capacity to admit 100 patients is always overloaded. With
4 qualified nurses, 2 student nurses and 48 home based care workers the
clinic is hardly managing. The sister-in-charge neither take off-days nor leave-days as pressure is always on her shoulders, “it is of no use for me to go to leave and
leave people dying”.

Thanks to
the Holy Ghost sisters who donated a car in 2003 otherwise critically-ill
people who need to be referred to further hospitals could have stumbled.
Water is
one of the major problems as they are using buckets to fetch water.

St
Mary’s Eben
|
|||
A
primary school established in 1943 with classes from Grade 1 to 5. In 1980
the school introduced Grade 6 and 7 classes. Early Childhood development was
introduced in 2006 yet there are 7 classrooms. Thus some of the pupils learn
outdoors.
There
are 6 teachers at the school which is less than the number of classes meaning
there are composite classes and hot sitting.
The
buildings are also in a dilapidated state and there is need for an
administration block.
